Summer 2006 Juvenile Saw-whet Owls
Photos taken by Chris Neri, August 2006
In July 2006 WPBO owl researchers Chris Neri and Nova MacKentley began
documenting a movement of juvenile Northern Saw-whet Owls (NSWO) through
Whitefish Point. During the first 17 nights of this study they banded over 150
juveniles and only 5 adult NSWO. While NSWO migration has been extensively
studied across the continent, the concentration of juveniles being documented
is unprecedented.
